Sergio Ramos has ended Manchester United’s hopes of buying him by agreeing a new contract with Real Madrid.

The Spain defender was due to sign a five-year deal in a ceremony at the Bernabeu today, according to the club website. The contract is understood to be worth about £200,000 a week.

Standard Sport reported last week that the deal had been sealed and that it would be made official at the start of this week.

Ramos, 29, would have collected a similar amount had he chosen to move to Old Trafford earlier this summer, but he has decided to spend the remainder of his top-level career with the 10-times European champions.
