Manchester United launched £145m Neymar bid last summer, according to player's father

Neymar's father has named Manchester United as the club who launched a £145million bid for his son last summer.

It is thought the offer matched Neymar's release clause and would have smashed the world record £86million Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale in 2013 had Barcelona gone ahead with the transfer.

Neymar Senior mentioned that an unnamed club had made the bid during a court case earlier this week, before later disclosing to Spanish radio station COPE that it was United who attempted to prise the Brazil international away from Barcelona.

The player's father, however, went on to reassure supporters of the catalan club that Neymar is 'so happy' at the Nou Camp.

"Manchester United is the side that offered €190m for Neymar," the player's father told radio station COPE.

"He has still two years left on his contract but you can all be calm as my son is so happy here."

It comes after former Barcelona president Juan Laporta told reporters in October that Barcelona may be forced to sell Neymar in a bid to balance the books.

While mentioning Manchester United, Laporta described the finacial situation at Barca as 'not good' because of mismanagement from current leaders and suggested the sale of a major player was one of few solutions.
