Manchester United swept Leicester City aside to earn a first win in four Premier League games and close the gap on fourth-placed Arsenal.

After a dour opening 40 minutes, Henrikh Mkhitaryan ran through and finished smartly past Kasper Schmeichel to break the deadlock. Zlatan Ibrahimovic added a second less than two minutes later.

Juan Mata put the result beyond doubt inside four minutes of the second half after fine work from Mkhitaryan afforded the Spaniard space in the penalty area to slot home.

United extend their unbeaten run to 15 games but remain sixth.

The result leaves Mourinho's side on 45 points after 24 games played, two behind the Gunners in the race for Champions League qualification.

Chelsea strengthened their grip on top spot thanks to Saturday's 3-1 win over Arsenal, Eden Hazard's fine solo goal the moment of the match before Cesc Fabregas wrapped up the win against his former club.

Tottenham moved three points clear of Arsenal, cutting Chelsea's lead back down to nine points, with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough thanks to Harry Kane's second-half penalty.

Earlier on Sunday, Manchester City were saved by new signing Gabriel Jesus with an injury-time winner over Swansea City.
