Manchester United have been charged by the Football Association for failing to control their players during Monday night's 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Chelsea.

N'Golo Kante's solitary strike proved to be the difference between the two sides at Stamford Bridge as the Blues booked their place in the semi-finals.

But United were aggrieved at the officials' decision to send off Ander Herrera for a second bookable offence prior to half time following a foul on Eden Hazard.

United's players surrounded referee Michael Oliver to contest the official before the Spanish midfielder left the field of play.

An FA statement read: "Manchester United have been charged for failing to control their players.

"It follows an incident in the 35th minute of the Emirates FA Cup quarter final tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday [Monday 13 March 2017]."

United have until 6pm on Friday 17 March to respond to the charge.
