QPR manager Harry Redknapp has praised Manchester United's decision to give David Moyes the chance to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Redknapp has been doing battle with Ferguson in the Premier League for the best part of 20 years but was quick to praise the appointment of Everton boss Moyes, who has spent the past 11 years building competitive sides on a limited budget at Goodison Park.

He added: "Great job for David - I couldn't be more pleased for him.

"He's the prefect choice and I think it is good that they have taken a British coach and have given him a chance. They have not just gone abroad but taken someone who has done his apprenticeship.

"It gives great hope for everyone out there in all divisions.

"He has worked his way up the ladder and did a fantastic job at Everton."

Stoke manager Tony Pulis also felt Moyes' appointment was hugely encouraging for British managers, who have long felt that jobs at the very top of English football were beyond their reach.

"I'm delighted David has got the job, it's a filip for every British manager," Pulis said.

"He's a lad who has gone through the leagues with Preston, gone to Everton and done fantastically for 10 years.

"For him to get that opportunity is brilliant for the country and all British managers, especially young ones starting off.

"It's a ray of light you need - that you have an opportunity to manage one of the top clubs - not one of the clubs just beneath, but one of the top clubs.

"Liverpool did it with Brendan (Rodgers) and now Man United have done it with David. We have a lot of people who finish their careers as wealthy players who don't need to (manage) for their livelihood but they might want to do it if they felt there's a chance to manage - not just play - at the top level."
