Manchester United teenager Anthony Elanga has been subjected to racist abuse on Instagram after his penalty miss against Middlesbrough.

Elanga blazed the crucial spot-kick over the bar in Friday night’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at Old Trafford after United had been held to a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

United lost 8-7 on penalties and were knocked out of the competition by Championship side Middlesbrough in a huge upset.

Elanga was then subjected with racist comments on his last Instagram post.

Troy Townsend, head of player engagement at Kick It Out, tweeted: "A spokesperson for Instagram said, it has already removed a number of comments and its investigation is ongoing.

“Blah, blah, blah. Rolling out the obligatory statement to appease who??”.

United’s players tweeted out their support for Elanga after his miss.

Marcus Rashford, who missed for the England in the Euro 2020 Final last summer, wrote: "Anthony Elanga. Get that head of yours up immediately.
