Pep Guardiola has named a strong Manchester City side for his team’s FA Cup tie with Birmingham City, but Sergio Aguero is not involved.

It had been presumed that Guardiola would use the match to give Aguero his first start since returning from injury, but the Argentine is not even among the substitutes, with unconfirmed reports suggesting the forward has been forced to self-isolate after coming into close contact with an individual with Covid-19.

There is another start in goal for American 'keeper Zack Steffen, while it appears that Kyle Walker will partner Ruben Dias at centre-back, with Benjamin Mendy and Joao Cancelo also in the team.

There is a wealth of creative talent in midfield, with Kevin de Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva all included in support of Gabriel Jesus.

Third-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson, defender Eric Garcia and midfielder Cole Palmer are still isolating while centre-backs Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake remain out with muscle problems.

Manchester City starting XI (4-3-3): Steffen, Cancelo, Walker, Dias, Mendy, Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Mahrez, Foden, Jesus.
