Manchester City winger Jesus Navas will come up against his former side in the Champions League when Manuel Pellegrini's men welcome Sevilla to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Navas came through the ranks at the Spanish club and scored 34 goals during his time in Andalucia, winning two UEFA Cups, one UEFA Super Cup and two Spanish Cups before making the move to City in 2013.

Despite a reunion with Sevilla fast approaching, Navas will be hoping his current team City can keep up the momentum following their 5-1 thumping of Bournemouth at the weekend and go into second place in the Champions League Group D standings with a win over their Spanish opponents.

Sevilla have endured a mixed set of recent results in all competitions, and know the trip to Manchester will prove tricky - although the club did manage to beat Barcelona 2-1 recently.

But which team is the favourite to take all three points on Wednesday? And where can fans watch the game? Read on to find out more.

Date, time and venue

The Group D clash between City and Sevilla takes place on Wednesday 21 October at the Etihad Stadium, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

Form and recent encounters

City come into the game with Sevilla leading the Premier League table by two points following two big wins in recent weeks.

Pellegrini's side thrashed Bournemouth at home 5-1 on Saturday after having done the same to Newcastle before the international break with a 6-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite having been impressive in the league so far this term, City lost their opening Champions League game to last year's finalists Juventus but managed to secure a win on matchday two although they had to come from behind to do it.

However, the 2-1 win away to Borussia Monchengladbach kept City's hopes of progressing past the group stages alive as it means they currently are tied with their opponents on Wednesday with three points each.

Sevilla, similarly, have one win and one loss in the tournament so far after beating Monchengladbach 3-0 in their opening game but then losing 2-0 away to Juventus.

The Spanish side's La Liga form has also been mixed and the side were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Eibar on Saturday.

City and Sevilla may not have ever played each other in the competition before, but Navas and indeed Pellegrini will be more than aware of the threat the Spanish club can pose.

Injured: Samir Nasri will not feature against Sevilla after suffering a hamstring injury

Team news

Pellegrini will be without star striker Sergio Aguero after the Argentine suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty earlier this month.

David Silva will also be out of the game with a sprained ankle while Samir Nasri will miss the clash with a hamstring issue.

Midfielder Fabian Delph is continuing his recovery from a hamstring problem, while Aleksandar Kolarov (thigh) and Gael Clichy (ankle) will leave Pellegrini with a headache about the left-back position.

However, one piece of good news for the City coach is that captain Vincent Kompany could return after being named on the substitutes' bench for City's win over Bournemouth.

Sevilla, meanwhile, will not be able to call upon the services of Gael Kakuta or Sergio Escudero, who are both missing with muscle injuries, while Daniel Carriço is sidelined with a hamstring problem.

To add to coach Unai Emery's woes, Fernando Llorente (adductor) and Luismi (metatarsal) are doubts to feature on Wednesday after missing the draw with Eibar.

Manchester City possible starting XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Mangala, Sagna, Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Navas, Sterling, De Bruyne, Bony.

Sevilla possible starting XI: Sergio Rico, Coke, Rami, Kolodziejczak, Tremoulinas, N'Zonzi, Krychowiak, Reyes, Iborra, Vitolo, Gameiro.

In the know: Manuel Pellegrini has faced Sevilla many times during his coaching career in Spain

What they're saying

Pellegrini: "Nasri had a problem with his hamstring. I don't know because I didn't talk with the doctor yet, but I think it will be very difficult for him [to play on Wednesday].

"Unfortunately we knew that he was feeling something after we made the third change so if not maybe I can change him before. He didn't run too much, he stayed in the middle so we'll see in the next days what happens with him."

Emery: "I'm proud of the team, although we couldn't find the game we wanted in the first half. The goal was to Eibar's credit and we had to remain patient against a tough opponent.

"We matured as the match went on and had chances to win, our equaliser aside. Our mentality in overcoming [going a goal down] was good. The result wasn't good, but it is what it is."
