Manchester United have accepted Christian Eriksen wants to move abroad.

The Tottenham playmaker has been on United's radar for some time, and they stepped up attempts to sign him as the transfer deadline loomed last summer.

Those talks concluded with Old Trafford’s hierarchy convinced Eriksen had his heart set on a move to Spain, and the situation is much the same this month.

Eriksen's contract is due to expire at the end of the season and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is keen to find a buyer to avoid losing him for free. The Dane is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs, but Inter Milan could sign him before the January deadline for a fee in the region of £20million.

Eriksen has repeatedly stalled on signing a new Spurs contract which would make him one of the club's top earners because he wants a new challenge and a lifestyle change.

As such, United have given up hope of luring him to Old Trafford but Solskjaer is still pursuing other avenues.

United are ready to test Ajax’s ability to hold on to their biggest stars by making a January move for Donny van de Beek.

Solskjaer is also an admirer of Hakim Ziyech, but Van de Beek would solve the immediate priority of strengthening his midfield this month.
