Manchester United stars hard at work in training as Premier League rivals stumble in Champions League race

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United squad were hard at work at Carrington on Thursday as the Red Devils enjoyed a fine week both on and off the pitch.

Bruno Fernandes starred as United won 3-0 at Brighton on Tuesday evening to boost their hopes of Champions League qualification, while results elsewhere in the Premier League further boosted their chances.

Leicester City (third) and Chelsea (fourth) both lost on Wednesday to Everton and West Ham respectively, while Tottenham's Champions League hopes took another blow with a 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United on Thursday.

Those results leave United fifth in the table on 52 points, and three behind third-placed Leicester. Fifth place will secure Champions League football should Manchester City's CAS appeal against their two-year Uefa ban fail.

United are unbeaten in 15 games across all competitions, and Solskjaer put his squad through their paces at Carrington on Thursday with the likes of Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial working hard ahead of the Red Devils' next game - a home tie against struggling Bournemouth on Saturday.

Solskjaer still wants to see more from his team though, telling reporters on Tuesday: "We're too far behind to be on the road to something special because special for this club is not where we are.

"But the team is improving, we're in with a shout for the Champions League next year and we still have the FA Cup and Europa League to play.

"The team is improving, the players are coming back and the style is better."
