The rain could not dampen Manchester City’s spirits as players and fans celebrated their historic treble success on Monday night.

Thousands of fans lined the streets for a delayed parade that kicked off half an hour late due to the threat of thunderstorms.

However, once the action got going it was clear that nothing would stand in the way of the City squad revelling in their trophy haul this season.

The Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup trophies took pride of place at the front of the bus as each player took their turn holding them aloft for the adoring public, many of whom climbed windows, bus stops and scaffolding for a glimpse of their heroes.

Jack Grealish was on fine form for the occasion, at one point being doused in champagne while live on Instagram - with Erling Haaland the chuckling culprit for his suddenly-soaked mop of hair.

The Norwegian striker was soon, like many of his team-mates, topless and even had the crown that adorns the Premier League trophy placed on his head at one point.

On the stage that capped the parade of the city, Grealish - wearing a high-vis jacket - declared “I’m the turkey and the turkey needs feeding” before necking a drink.

Kevin De Bruyne was also spotted dancing to the music while enjoying a beer and City boss Pep Guardiola puffed a cigar as he watched on from the bus.

“We had to be the best parade with this rain, otherwise it is not Manchester,” Guardiola told the crowd.

“We don't want sunshine, we want rain, so it was perfect. They are used to the rain.”

City were crowned European champions on Sunday with a narrow 1-0 win over Inter in Istanbul, which followed their FA Cup triumph over rivals Manchester United. A few weeks earlier, they set in motion the first part of the treble by easing past Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge.
