Pep Guardiola backs sublime Manchester City to improve even further in ominous message to title rivals

Pep Guardiola insisted his Manchester City side could still improve in an ominous message to the rest of the Premier League.

The champions humiliated rivals Manchester United inside the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with the 6-3 scoreline flattering the visitors.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scored hat-tricks in what proved to be a straightforward win for City, even despite a number of injury problems.

John Stones and Rodri missed out, while Kyle Walker was forced off and Ruben Dias stayed on the bench, depriving Guardiola of some of his most important players.

City still trial Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, sitting one point behind Mikel Arteta’s side after eight games played.

Guardiola told Sky Sports: "It was really good. We scored four goals and we could have scored more really. They played better in the second half and the last minutes was flat, but it was a good game and everyone in the stadium was happy.

"In the first half we were aggressive and had the space, and the quality of players we had up front made the difference.

"Some players were not good today and have to improve."
