Pep Guardiola revelled in his latest derby day victory over Manchester United as his Manchester City team set a Premier League record for victories at Old Trafford.

No team has won more matches against United at the Theatre of Dreams than Guardiola’s team, with a 2-0 win on Saturday their eighth of the Prem era, one more than Liverpool.

The Spaniard has overseen four Premier League wins at Old Trafford with two further victories in Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did possess a very solid 50 per cent winning record against Guardiola ahead of the game, but an early Eric Bailly own goal and Bernardo Silva’s far-post finish earned City the Manchester bragging rights.

The manager told Sky Sports: "We know how important it is. We have had good performances at Old Trafford in general since we have been together.

"We’ve won many times, much more than at any other stadium. It was a solid performance and a deserved victory.

"We spoke about them being a transition team and we had to put the ball in the fridge. A lot of passes and in the last moment we arrive there in that situation. It was really good. It looks like the players are moving but we are moving the ball.

"Everybody has to be in position. The ball comes where we are. We had a lot of control and we did not let them run. This is the game we needed."

City had plenty of chances to extend their lead even further, Phil Foden hitting the post with the best of them. Guardiola, however, was in no mood to criticise his players’ profligacy.

He stated: “It’s okay, we are demanding and we have very high standards. But I’m very pleased, this was the game we needed.”
