Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy responds to Pep Guardiola's demand for less social media... with a Twitter post

Benjamin Mendy is certainly no stranger to social media, with the Manchester City defender effectively becoming the club's unofficial cheerleader last season.

With the France international suffering a serious knee injury early in his debut campaign in England, the wing-back set about delighting City fans with plenty of posts across his social media accounts as Pep Guardiola's side romped to the Premier League title.

After returning to fitness and being included in France's victorious World Cup squad, Mendy is finally ready to show City fans what they were missing last season.

The 24-year-old was all over the pitch in Sunday's Premier League clash against Arsenal, grabbing assists for both Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva as City ran out 2-0 winners in north London.

But while Mendy may have offered plenty of entertainment on the pitch, Guardiola has called for a more measured approach from the defender - both on and off the pitch.

“That is not good (when he is like a centre-forward)," Guardiola said when asked about Mendy's marauding performance. "Mendy is Mendy. It is what it is.

"Sometimes you want to kill him. Sometimes you say 'wow, what a player we have'. He gives this extra energy with Kyle [Walker], helping the attack so consistently.

"Mendy has a lot of things to improve. Hopefully we can convince him to be calm and forget a bit the social media and focus on what he has to do."

With City's official Twitter account posting Guardiola's quotes after the match, Mendy duly replied in the best way he knows how.

The World Cup winner replied to Guardiola's quotes with "Oops", before a later message stating he would "promise" to cut down on his social media antics - and what a way to start.
