Lukasz Fabianski insists he is not distracted by No1 battle

Good form: Lukasz Fabianski has impressed between the sticks

Lukasz Fabianski will stay focused on the job in hand as he looks to cement his place as Arsenal No1.

He has grown in stature since deputising for Manuel Almunia, who has been sidelined for six weeks by an elbow injury.

Fabianski produced a decent display during the 2-1 Champions League defeat away to Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday and is set to be in goal for the Premier League visit of Newcastle.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has long championed the potential of the 25-year-old, despite some high‑profile blunders.

Although Almunia is fast closing in on a return, the Pole is not focusing on whether he has done enough to stay in the team.

"My only thing is to keep working hard and try to play as best as I can, to try to help the team," said Fabianski. "Even when there was a difficult time for me I was always focused on my job. That is the only way I can achieve something."

Captain Cesc Fabregas should return to the side on Sunday after a hamstring injury.
