Luiz Felipe Scolari is open to replacing Roy Hodgson as England manager a decade after turning the Three Lions job down.

The FA approached Scolari about the possibility of taking charge in 2006 but the Brazilian coach, who was still Portugal boss at the time, rejected their advances.

Steve McClaren was eventually appointed instead but he, Fabio Capello and Hodgson have all failed to deliver the success England craves.

Scolari, who guided Brazil to the World Cup in 2002 and is currently working in the Chinese Super League, has stressed how important the England job is in world football.

"I am the manager of Guangzhou and I am concentrating on my job here," said the 67-year-old.

"But I know the importance of the England job in world football.

"I’ve an affection for English football and I am aware of the need for the national team to be successful.

"I understand the importance of an international manager from my time with Brazil and Portugal," he added.

Hodgson resigned following Monday night's embarrassing Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland and a three-man panel consisting of Martin Glenn, David Gill and Dan Ashworth has been appointed to find his successor.

Gareth Southgate appears to have ruled himself out of the running with both English and foreign candidates set to be considered for the rule.
