Luis Suarez 'chomping at the bit' to return

Brendan Rodgers says Luis Suarez is ‘chomping at the bit’ to make his Liverpool return following a 10-match ban for biting.

Rodgers used the unfortunate turn of phrase today ahead of the Reds’ Capital One Cup tie against Manchester United on Wednesday.

Suarez will be available for selection at Old Trafford for the first time since he was suspended for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April.

"It has been a really difficult time for him not playing games," said the Liverpool boss.

"How he has prepared himself over the last number of weeks has been fantastic. He's really chomping at the bit to help the team.

Despite the 26-year-old’s attempts to force through a move away from Anfield in the summer, Rodgers was full of praise for his forward.

But he would not be moved on speculation the Uruguayan will start in midweek.

He added: "Everyone knows the depth of his quality and his attitude. Once he gets back on the field again he will show what he has shown since he's been here."
