Liverpool vs Chelsea team news: Sadio Mane on the bench as Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois return for Antonio Conte's side at Anfield

Vaishali Bhardwaj31 January 2017

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has opted to leave star man Sadio Mane on the bench for the Reds' Premier League clash with leaders Chelsea tonight.

Mane took part in training today after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations yesterday, but Klopp has decided not to risk playing the Senegal international at Anfield despite Liverpool's poor past week that has seen the club lose three straight home games.

The German coach has instead opted to start the fit again Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in attack while Nathaniel Clyne returns from a rib injury in defence. Joel Matip also starts in central defence alongside Dejan Lovren,

Meanwhile, Conte has reverted to his usual starting line-up for the game against Liverpool, with Diego Costa starting up front and Thibaut Courtois back in goal. David Luiz also comes back into the team with Gary Cahill after the pair were rested in the 4-0 FA Cup win over Brentford on Saturday.

Antonio Conte: "I think that after this game, and there are 15 games, a lot of points, for sure it could be another hit mentally for them.

"But I repeat there are 15 games after this before the season finishes. For this reason the result is important but it does not decide the season for Chelsea or Liverpool."
