Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid: Prediction, team news, kick off time, TV, live stream and h2h results today

Jonathan Gorrie3 November 2021

Liverpool will look to further strengthen their grip on top spot in Champions League Group B when they host Atletico Madrid tonight.

When the groups were drawn, the LaLiga giants would have looked like their biggest threat, so a victory at Anfield would underline what has been a relatively straightforward European campaign thus far.

Winners in the Spanish capital last month, Jurgen Klopp did recently question his side’s “body language” following Saturday’s draw with Brighton but can surely be confident heading into the fixture given just how good his team have been going forward of late.

Indeed, they have already scored 11 times in three games on the continental stage, while Atletico have conceded at least twice in three of their last four outings across all competitions.

Date, time and venue

Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off tonight - Wednesday November 3, 2021.

The game will take place at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid team news

Naby Keita - who scored a wonderful volley in the reverse fixture - will miss the game with a hamstring problem although both Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho have returned to training.

With Harvey Elliott and James Milner missing, having both players back in at least some capacity is a major boost to Klopp.

For the away side, Antoine Griezmann’s red card against Liverpool last month is a major blow, particularly considering he scored twice. That, however, could see Luis Suarez start at Anfield for only the second time since leaving the Merseyside giants in 2014.

Elsewhere, Marcos Llorente and Thomas Lemar are unlikely to feature.

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Fabinho, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Mane, Jota, Salah.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Konate, Thiago, Firmino, Minamino, Robertson, Origi, Phillips, Williams, Morton.

Atletico XI: Oblak; Trippier, Felipe, Gimenez, Hermoso; Correa, De Paul, Koke, Carrasco; Suarez, Joao Felix.

Subs: Lecomte, Iturbe, Lodi, Vrsaljko, Herrera, Gonzalez, Serrano, Carlos, Cunha.

Liverpool v Atletico Madrid predcition

Liverpool’s defence might have not wholly convinced thus far but, frankly, their attack has more than made up for it.

With Atletico missing some key players, it seems reasonable to expect a home win.

Liverpool to win 2-1.
