We go again: Rodgers confirms club are looking at 'other targets' as Remy deal collapses
Standard Sport28 July 2014

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has spoken out on why the club decided to opt out of signing QPR striker Loic Remy.

The France international, who had been training with Liverpool in Boston during their United States tour, was expected to complete an £8.5million move from Loftus Road, to add further competition in Rodgers' front line.

But having undergone a medical, club doctors were reportedly concerned by the results.

His switch to Marseille in 2010 was held up amid concerns over a potential heart problem. At the time a Marseille club doctor said "it's a mechanical problem" before his transfer from Nice was finally completed.

Speaking to reporters after Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Olympiakos, Rodgers confirmed that the deal was off.

“It’s very simple,” said Rodgers. “We’ve made a decision as a club not go ahead with the deal."

Liverpool have however completed the signing of Dejan Lovren from Southampton, while they are also expected to finalise a move for Lille striker Divock Origi, with Rodgers confirming the club are now looking at other options following the collapse of the Remy deal.

“It’s unfortunate for the player [Remy] and we’re disappointed for him," he added. "We have to move on though and look at other targets.”
