Liverpool star Mohamed Salah may have endured a tough time at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Saturday, but the Egyptian forward was in higher spirits by Tuesday night.

Mourinho's men had hoped to join Liverpool and Manchester City in the quarter-finals, but Sevilla substitute Wissam Ben Yedder's brace secured a famous 2-1 win against Jose Mourinho's lacklustre side on Tuesday.

Last month David De Gea saved the Red Devils' blushes as they escaped Andalusia with a goalless draw, but Vincenzo Montella's men did not allow another undercooked display to go unpunished.

An abject United performance got the outcome it deserved as Sevilla kicked on after a solid first-half display, with Ben Yedder coming off the bench to secure a 2-1 win and render Romelu Lukaku's late goal pointless as the Spaniards progressed from the last-16 at the fourth time of asking.

And Salah - who was ridiculed on Twitter after Ashley Young performed well against him on the flank on Saturday - appeared to get his own back on United after the game, tweeting: "The UCL draw can't come soon enough" - accompanied by a knowing emoji of a laughing face.

Liverpool are through to the last eight along with City, Juventus, Real Madrid, Roma and Sevilla.

The two final last-16 ties will be decided on Wednesday night.

Bayern Munich are all but through after beating Besiktas 5-0 away in the first leg, while Chelsea's fate hangs in the balance after a 1-1 home draw against Barcelona.

The draw takes place at 11am on Friday, 16 March.
