Mohamed Salah goals: Take a closer look at Liverpool star’s stats and goal record

Standard Sport19 March 2018

Mohamed Salah's incredible season continued with four more goals in Liverpool's 5-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

The Egypt forward moved clear of Tottenham's Harry Kane into the outright lead for the Premier League Golden Boot on 28 goals.

Salah also assisted the only other goal of the game for Roberto Firmino to take his assist tally to nine for the 2017-18 season - level with the likes of Davild Silva, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Dele Alli, and behind only Manchester City duo Leroy Sane (11) and Kevin De Bruyne (14).

Here is a statistical look at Salah's season so far...

1/25
  • Salah needs only two more Premier League goals to reach 30 for the season. The feat has been achieved only nine times before in the Premier League era, by seven different players - and three of those came in 42-game seasons in the days when there were 22 teams in the top flight.

  • Salah's next goal will take him level with Didier Drogba for the most prolific Premier League season by an African player. Drogba scored 29 for Chelsea in 2009-10.

  • With his four goals against Watford, Salah overtook Fernando Torres' record for the most goals in a debut season with Liverpool - he now has 36 in all competitions, to Torres' 33 in 2007-08.

  • Despite Salah's prolific season, Saturday was his first Liverpool hat-trick.

  • He became only the fourth Liverpool player to score four goals in a Premier League game. Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen achieved the feat twice apiece, and Luis Suarez was the most recent to do so against Norwich in December 2013.
