James Milner has urged his Liverpool teammates to address their mental issues after the Reds succumbed to their fifth Premier League draw of the season against Southampton on Sunday.

New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp appeared to be heading to his first win in charge of the club against the Saints at Anfield after Milner's cross was headed into the back of the net by Christian Benteke in the 77th minute.

But Sadio Mane's late equaliser denied the Reds all three points and also handed Liverpool their fifth league draw of the campaign - as well as Klopp's third successive draw since taking over at the club earlier this month.

Milner, who captained the side in the game on Sunday, described Liverpool's result against Southampton as "frustrating" and insisted the team must address their inability to see out matches to avoid it becoming a mental problem for the players going forwards.

"That's something that we have to address and make sure it doesn't become a mental problem," the midfielder said.

"It is frustrating. It was a disappointing way to draw. We didn't have to many chances after they scored and that was disappointment.

"We didn't react and, mentally, we didn't have that reaction to go again after they scored."

However, the former Manchester City player expressed his optimism following the return of Benteke from injury, and praised the striker's fine goal against the Saints.

"Christian's goal wasn't bad, was it?" he added.

"It's great to have him back."
