Liverpool linked to Gaston Ramirez

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has turned his attention to Bologna’s Gaston Ramirez as part of his drive to add wide players to his squad.

The Reds boss was pursuing Clint Dempsey but has been put off by Fulham’s £10million asking price so has turned his attention to the 21-year-old.

The Anfield side held preliminary talks with Bologna last month and now the player’s agent has arrived in England to negotiate a move a ‘Premier League club’.

The Uruguayan has attracted attention from the world’s top clubs in the last year with his fast and tricky wing play.

Barcelona, AC Milan and both Manchester clubs are all believed to have had an interest in the player but it appears that Liverpool are now leading the chase.

"Gaston is ready to leave Italy - so much so I am in England for talks with a Premier League club," agent Pablo Betancourt told Mercato.

"He is one of the most important players in Uruguay, so there are no shortage of offers."

The Reds are in pole position to sign the former Penarol player, who is contracted to Bologna until 2016.

The transfer will most likely not be completed for the next fortnight as the player is currently in London as part of the Uruguayan team competing in the Olympics.
