Liverpool have completed the £11.75million signing of Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.
The 24-year-old signed a five-year deal with the Premier League champions after undergoing a medical on Monday.
Shortly after putting pen to paper, he revealed that a lifelong affiliation with the Reds was behind his desire to make the move.
"My brother is a Liverpool fan and he pushed me to come here and sign. [As] a kid, I supported Liverpool. For all my family and for my brother, we are very happy for this," he told the club’s official website.
"I think until now he [his brother] doesn't believe I'm here. Now when he sees the pictures he will understand I've signed here and will be very happy."
Tsimikas first caught the eye of Liverpool scouts when he joined Pedro Chirivella in spending the 2017-18 season on loan at Dutch club Willem II.
The Reds’ recruitment staff have since kept tabs on his progress and worked to strike up strong relations with the player’s representatives.
That ensured that Jurgen Klopp’s side were in a strong position to see off initial interest from Nice and Napoli in swooping for Tsimikas this summer.
The Greece international impressed staff with his willingness to battle for a position usually held down by Andy Robertson, who is known to have watched regularly in a bid to improve his own game.
And, despite late attempts from Leicester City and Sevilla to hijack the deal, Liverpool have secured their first signing of the summer.
