Liverpool’s qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League saw them complete the set in terms of Premier League sides, with five making it out of the groups for the first time in the competitions's history.

Chelsea and Manchester United both sealed their qualification with a draw and win respectively on Tuesday night, while Tottenham and Manchester City had their confirmed with games to spare.

Liverpool only needed a draw to make sure they joined their Premier League rivals in the knockout stages, and routed Spartak Moscow 7-0 to seal top spot in Group E.

It is a remarkable achievement for English football and the Premier League, having fallen behind the likes of La Liga and the Bundesliga on the European stage in recent years.

Spurs enjoyed arguably the most successful group stage campaign, beating Borussia Dortmund home and away and picking up at point at holders Real Madrid before beating them to seal top spot on a memorable night at Wembley.

All eyes, then, will be on Switzerland at lunchtime on Monday for a little bit of Champions League history, when all five go into the hat for the round of 16 draw.
