Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson Becker is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder injury in training ahead of Liverpool's visit to Aston Villa.

The Brazilian was replaced in the Reds' starting line-up at Villa Park by Adrian after coming off worse in an accidental clash with a team-mate at Melwood on Saturday.

And it has now emerged that he is unlikely to be fit again for the visit to Everton that follows the upcoming international break.

Standard Sport understands that Liverpool's medical staff won't rule out surgery for the 28-year-old until the injury has settled, though club sources currently consider that outcome unlikely.

Asked about Alisson's absence, Klopp told Sky Sports: “Yesterday an incident in training, very unlucky – two players clash with each other, one gets up, one doesn’t. The one who didn’t get up was Ali.

“So, after the first few things, we don’t know 100 per cent. But he cannot play today. We have to do further assessment; but he’s injured, let me say it like this. Now we hope it will go really quickly.

“It’s an international break, I’m pretty sure after that he will not be ready. Then we have to see week by week.”
