Lionel Messi says he is not sure when he will be fit to make his debut for Paris-Saint Germain.

The forward has joined the French club on a two-year deal after his contract with Barcelona expired this summer.

Fans are now desperate for Messi to make his debut, with PSG in action this weekend against Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

There had been hope the 34-year-old could play in that game, but he has hinted he needs time to get fit.

Messi was not training with Barcelona this summer, while he was also competing with Argentina at the Copa America.

Asked when he’d be ready to play for PSG, Messi said: “Actually I don’t know. I was on holiday and it is very new.

“I spoke yesterday with the technical staff, so maybe I need a pre-season myself. I am going to begin to train and work and I hope I can play as soon as I can. I really want to, but I can’t exactly answer your question.

“When I feel it and the staff thinks I am okay, then I will be ready and willing to play.”
