Leyton Orient are finalising the appointment of Carl Fletcher as their new manager.

The former Plymouth boss will take over as the permanent successor to Justin Edinburgh, who died aged 49 in June following a cardiac arrest.

Fletcher, 39, has been working as loan manager at Bournemouth having previously had a coaching role with their Under-23 side. A former West Ham, Crystal Palace and Wales midfielder, he spent two years in charge of Plymouth between 2011 and 2013.

Ross Embleton, who was named interim Orient manager after the death of Edinburgh, will revert back to his former role of assistant coach. Interim coach Danny Webb and interim player-coach Jobi McAnuff will also form part of Fletcher’s backroom team.

Embleton has played a key role in helping Orient through a difficult period since Edinburgh died having guided the club back into the Football League earlier this year.

Fletcher’s first game in charge is set to be away at Grimsby Town on Saturday. Orient are 17th in League Two, with 16 points from their first 13 games.

Orient director of football Martin Ling has been leading the search for a new manager. Edinburgh’s son Charlie tweeted last night: “Lingy and the board where responsible for bringing Dad in, that didn’t turn out too bad. Whoever the new manager is needs all Leyton Orient fans’ backing.”
