Leyton Orient were this morning not confirming when staff will be paid, after club employees asked for assurances they will receive their wages for March.

Staff yesterday took the unprecedented step of releasing a statement to say they have had no correspondence from owner Francesco Becchetti or Orient directors.

Standard Sport this morning contacted Orient chief operating officer Vito Miceli for comment but he did not respond. Staff were due to be paid 20 days ago and say they are “hugely concerned” by the lack of communication from Becchetti.

The employees said: “To this date it remains unacknowledged with no indication as to when, or if, we are to be paid.”

The English Football League told Standard Sport today: “We are monitoring developments closely.”

Orient are bottom of League Two and could be relegated from the Football League for the first time in 112 years on Saturday.
