Let Danny Rose go if he’s unhappy — it is Toby Alderweireld who Tottenham must keep, writes Danny Murphy

If Chelsea or Manchester United offer £50million for Danny Rose, it would be logical to let him go.

Rose is an excellent player who has improved a great deal but there are a lot of left-backs around.

The player Tottenham really need to keep is Toby Alderweireld. Centre-backs of that quality do not grow on trees, so Tottenham have to find a way to pay him what he is worth, without breaking the financial codes they have in place.

There are always ways and means of doing that and Tottenham might have to be creative to keep hold of one or two of their better players.

We are led to believe Alderweireld is paid about £50,000 a week and if that is the case, he knows there are inferior players at other clubs who earn more than he does.

I don’t think there is a need to worry about Dele Alli or Harry Kane just yet. Alli is only 21 and his advisors should be telling him to keep going at Spurs, increase his wisdom, enjoy playing at Wembley and try to match his numbers from last season — 18 goals and seven assists in the Premier League alone.

Take your time. The big move and the big money will eventually come, even if he has an average season, because of what he has already shown.

Whatever negativity there may be at the club, Tottenham can always turn to Kane. He is one of the best strikers in the world but even better than that, he is passionate about the club and says all the right things.

His attitude, application and the way he conducts himself are superb and everyone connected with Spurs should be proud of that.

What of Rose? I don’t know all the conversations that have taken place but my guess is that he may have tried to agree a new contract at Tottenham and that has not worked out. I would not have advised him to do the interview without the club’s knowledge, as appears to have been the case.

But he has not said anything particularly derogatory. He is ambitious, he wants to win trophies and he wants to maximise his earning potential. Show me anyone in any walk of life and I guarantee they will want to earn what they believe their talent is worth.

I wouldn’t have talked about getting stick from the fans, though, because that happens to all players. The next few weeks will show us how often he will play in front of them in the future.
