Leigertwood has no regrets at QPR departure

Move: Mikele Leigertwood fell out of favour at Loftus Road

Reading midfielder Mikele Leigertwood has no regrets about his decision to leave eventual npower Championship title winners QPR for the Royals ahead of Monday's play-off final against Swansea.

The 28-year-old made nine league appearances for Neil Warnock's side at the beginning of the campaign before joining the Berkshire club on loan in November after falling out of favour at Loftus Road.

Leigertwood's spell was eventually extended until the end of the season and yesterday he agreed to make it permanent by penning a three-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

While his former side's place amongst England's elite next season is secured, Leigertwood will head to Wembley knowing that defeat will consign him to another season of Championship football.

Despite that, the midfielder insists he made the right choice to join Brian McDermott's side permanently.

"For me it's all about playing football," he said.

"To stay and sit on the bench, you could probably deal with it for a little while. But ultimately the main aim is to play football and I was given the opportunity to do that here at Reading.

"I always knew that Reading also had a good chance of going up.

"At the time obviously QPR were still top of the league, but to come here to a club who were obviously pushing, whether it be automatic or the play-offs, there's still a chance, and obviously I wanted to take that."
