Kylian Mbappe confirms multiple Liverpool attempts to sign striker before committing to Paris Saint-Germain

Kylian Mbappe has detailed Liverpool’s attempts to sign him at two different points in his career.

Paris Saint-Germain successfully fought off the Reds’ advances for the French World Cup winner, plus interest from Real Madrid, to tie Mbappe down to a three-year contract this week.

But it was not the first attempt by Liverpool, having also held talks with him back in 2017 when he left Monaco.

“We talked a little bit, but not too much,” Mbappe confirmed to the Telegraph.

“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!

“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

Having rejected Madrid and Liverpool to remain in Paris, Mbappe has outlined his goals for the years to come.

“To be the best? It’s to write history,” added the 23-year-old. “To win important titles collectively and individually. To give pleasure to people, because football is not just about titles, it’s about emotion.

“It’s about feeling. It’s not just about scoring goals or winning the Ballon d’Or or the Champions League. It’s about showing a lot of things, even off the pitch. To be respectful, to be yourself. It’s global when I said to be the best. It’s why I don’t say to be the best player in the world.”
