Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he has not followed Chelsea's woes this season, but admitted it is still possible his former side can mount a title challenge despite trailing Manuel Pellegrini's team by 10 points.

Jose Mourinho's Blues side currently sit in 12th position in the Premier League standings after suffering a disappointing start to their title defence, which has seen the club win just three top-flight games this term.

In contrast, City find themselves two points clear at the top of the table following a superb beginning to the 2015/16 campaign that has been aided, in part, by De Bruyne, who has impressed since moving to the club in the summer with three league goals.

The Belgian was sold to Wolfsburg by Mourinho in January 2014, with the Portuguese coach later saying De Bruyne was not ready to compete with other squad members for a starting berth at Chelsea.

With the Belgian currently enjoying life at the league leaders, De Bruyne has admitted he is not bothered about Chelsea's problems this season - although he conceded the Blues could still prove a threat in the Premier League title race should City suffer a run of poor form.

When asked if he had been watching Chelsea's situation with interest, the 24-year-old said: "Not really, to be honest, I’m busy with my thing and they have to look for the solution for themselves."

When then asked about the title race, he said: "A lot can happen. If we lose two or three games and they [Chelsea] win it then they are there, it’s still a long hard season.

"We just try to put pressure on everybody so they are not allowed to make mistakes."

After leaving Chelsea for Wolfsburg last January, De Bruyne ended last season being voted as the Bundesliga player of the year by journalists in Germany for his 10 goals and record 21 assists in the top-flight.

And the winger believes that, despite the hefty transfer fee City paid to sign him from Wolfsburg and his previous troubles securing a first-team place at Chelsea, he has nothing to prove in the Premier League.

"I think I did it already in Germany. I had a fantastic one-and-a-half years, I’m trying to build further on that."
