Pep Guardiola has allayed fears over Kevin de Bruyne after the Manchester City playmaker suffered a groin strain in training.

The Belgium international was ruled out of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb.

Man City won 2-0 in his absence, but Guardiola revealed he could be back for Sunday’s game against Wolves.

“It’s not serious, today he could not play we’ll see for Sunday,” said City’s manager. “Right now I don’t know, maybe he can if we take a risk, but I think after the international break he’ll be fit.”

Second-half goals from substitutes Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden secured victory.

Afterwards Guardiola hailed Sterling’s impact after he scored one and made another.

“I said many times he’ll be a beter player than today,” he said. “He’s a player who is always there, he has this talent he loves to score goals, you always have that feeling.

“He’s said a few days ago he missed chances at Everton, but he was always thinking of the next one.

“The feeling we had when we arrived he played good, but it was like he didn’t care. I think still he can improve his finishing.

“Today the pass for Phil was perfect. But still there is a gap to be even more clinicial, but it’s important that all the time he’s there and that’s why he’s been able to score the goals.”
