Kenny Jackett targets a top-two slot for Millwall

On the up: Paul Robinson celebrates after Millwall beat promotion rivals Leeds last night

Kenny Jackett saw his Millwall side outclass Leeds and then challenged them to reach the 85‑point mark and win automatic promotion.

Millwall are now just three points behind the Elland Road side following an excellent 2-0 win there last night.

Last season Millwall lost in the play-off final to Scunthorpe but the triumph at Leeds has strengthened Jackett's belief that his team can go straight up to the Championship.

To do that, Jackett thinks Millwall must pick up 17 points from their final nine games with only three of those against top-10 sides — Colchester, Huddersfield and Swindon.

"It is a crucial time for us and at the end of the season you really need a sprint finish," said the boss. "The win at Leeds starts our last 10 games off very well. It is against one of our competitors so it claws them back somewhat.

"To be able to come to Elland Road and play as well as that, I'm very pleased with the players.

"What we have to do now is look forward and keep working. I don't particularly look at anyone else but I look at a points total and we are going to need 85-plus to get second in this League. We need to be up there and competing until the end of the season."

Millwall are on an excellent run of five wins and a draw in their last six games, which has seen them catapulted into the race for a top‑two slot.

They are unbeaten at The Den in their last 11 matches and on Saturday they are at home to Stockport, who are bottom of the division.

Another win could haul them level on points with Leeds but defender Paul Robinson is refusing to get carried away.

He added: "It is a massive result. It is a big victory to come here and keep a clean sheet. To beat Leeds at Elland Road is a very proud achievement for the boys.

"Although there is a possibility for automatic promotion we will just keep going and focusing on the next game, which is a big one against Stockport."

Steve Morrison put Millwall ahead in the 10th minute when he steered in Liam Trotter's cross from the right at the far post.

Shaun Batt made the game safe late on when he evaded some weak challenges before driving the ball past goalkeeper Casper Ankergren.

Leeds have won only four of their 13 League games this year and boss Simon Grayson said: "Clearly we were not good enough. We have players who can do a lot better and they didn't do it. We knew Millwall were a good side."
