Liverpool and Manchester United fans caught a glimpse of what Kai Havertz could bring to their respective sides this summer after the German netted a quick-fire first-half double for Bayer Leverkusen.
The 20-year-old has been linked with the Premier League duo after some stunning performances for the Bundesliga outfit in 2019-20.
As the Bundesliga returned for its first gameweek in two months following the coronavirus pandemic, Leverkusen travelled to the Weserstadion on Monday night to face struggling Werder Bremen hoping to keep themselves in contention for a Champions League qualification berth.
After a sluggish start to the match - entirely understandable after such a long inactive period - a piece of brilliance from Havertz put Peter Bosz's side in front in the 28th minute.
Speedy winger Moussa Diaby beat his marker down the right-hand side and lifted a cross to the far post, where Havertz judged the flight of the ball superbly to head past goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka.
Werder Bremen equalised within 144 seconds of that opener through Gebre Selassie, but Havertz wasn't quite finished with his first-half goalscoring just yet.
This time it was a set-piece which proved to be the hosts' undoing, as Havertz ghosted in behind the defence unmarked to head home Kerem Demirbay's in-swinging free-kick and make it two goals in just six minutes.
Leverkusen know they will face a fight to keep Havertz this summer and have reportedly placed a £100million price tag on the academy graduate to ward off potential suitors
But with form like this, the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United may feel that fee is good value for money.
