Fulham winger Alexander Kacaniklic could miss the start of the season after he suffered a hamstring injury against Werder Bremen yesterday.

Kacaniklic, 21, was forced off early during a 1-0 friendly defeat in Germany and is now a doubt to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on August 17. “Hopefully it is not too bad but he may be out for a couple of weeks,” said manager Martin Jol. “That is not what you want from pre-season.

“Kaca has made a lot of big steps and progress with us.”

Jol also confirmed that he wants to sign a new striker and says he is working hard to bring in some fresh faces before the season gets underway. “We will try to get someone up front,” he said. “We need a few more goals, since Clint [Dempsey] left we do not have enough goals in us, so we are working every day to get someone. We have some high-quality players in consideration and we would like another midfielder as well.”

Fulham have flown to Austria for a training camp before concluding their pre-season preparations against Real Betis and Parma at Craven Cottage next week.

Brentford goalkeeper Simon Moore was today on the verge of joining Cardiff City.

The 23-year-old completed a medical in Wales over the weekend and is expected to leave Griffin Park for a deal reportedly worth around £150,000.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay said: “He is someone we have tracked for a year and he has had a successful year for Brentford.”
