The ignominious start Nicklas Bendtner has made to his Juventus career continued today after the club suggested he was too fat to play in Serie A.

According to reports in Italy, the club’s coaching staff were less than impressed with Bendtner in his first training session after their sporting director Giuseppe Marotta had admitted they signed him only because they missed out on Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez and Dimitar Berbatov.

The 24-year-old striker has been ordered by the club, who are top of the table after winning their opening two matches of the season, to follow a specially-designed training regime accompanied by a strict diet.

Former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi said of their new forward: “I will not say Bendtner is a bad player but he does not help improve Juventus either.”

Bendtner, on a season-long loan from Arsenal, is suspended for Denmark’s opening 2014 World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic on Saturday for displaying sponsored pants at Euro 2012, giving him plenty of time to concentrate on improving his fitness.
