Former Tottenham assistant manager Steffen Freund believes Jurgen Klopp is a 'perfect' fit for Liverpool.
The German coach has been installed as the favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked in the wake of Sunday's 1-1 draw in the Merseyside Derby.
Klopp is currently unattached, having left his role at Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, but recently hinted that he would consider ending his self enforced break from the game if he received a suitable offer.
Freund was shocked by the manner of Rodgers' exit but is adamant that his countryman would be an ideal candidate to resurrect Liverpool's season: "They've been waiting an age for a league title. That's the problem at Liverpool. I'm surprised that Brendan Rodgers was let go so soon.
"Klopp said himself that if he went abroad, he'd go to England. To go to Liverpool would suit both parties perfectly."
The end of Klopp's reign at Dortmund may have ended in failure as the club missed out on a Champions League place but his stock remains high after he led the club to two Bundesliga titles and one DFB Pokal during his several year reign.
Former Germany international Franz Beckenbauer also has faith that Klopp is capable of forging a career in the Premier League.
"Jurgen Klopp would fit in anywhere. Liverpool have made history [in the past]. The fans are longing for success."
Liverpool's next fixture is against Tottenham at White Hart Lane in 12 days time.
