Julian Draxler could be made available for transfer by Wolfsburg after sporting director Klaus Allofs said the club had “issues” with their star playmaker.

Draxler, 22, arrived at Wolfsburg just before last summer’s transfer deadline day and was tasked with replacing Kevin De Bruyne, who had won the Footballer of the Year in Germany award in his final season as a Bundesliga player.

Arsenal have been consistently linked with the German international and, after failing in a £20million bid for Jamie Vardy, are casting their net more widely in search of attacking reinforcements.

The Gunners failed in a £25m bid for Draxler in January 2014 and have been consistently linked with him since. Those links could intensify after Allofs admitted that the playmaker’s future may be up for debate.

Allofs told reporters: “Clearly we have a lot to talk about. There were a few issues that have emerged in the past.”

Draxler was a key contributor in Germany’s passage to the Euro 2016 semi-finals, starting four of his country’s matches and earning the man of the match award for his goalscoring display in a 3-0 win over Slovakia.
