The countdown is on; not to Christmas but the January transfer window.

The floodgates will open in 11 days' time and Premier League clubs will have a chance to choose whether to bolster their options or shed some unwanted members of their squad.

With England's top tier more competitive than ever, expect plenty of business to be done as the race for European places hots up and the relegation pressure cranks up a notch.

The 'Special One' was relieved of his duties as Chelsea manager last week following the club's disastrous results this season, with Mourinho releasing a statement on Saturday saying he intends to return to management as soon as possible.

The Portuguese's past record is such that he is not expected to be out of work for long, but questions are now being asked whether Mourinho could be heading to Manchester United.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal's position at the club has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks with the club having been dumped out of the Champions League and fallen out of the top four following their 2-1 loss at home to Norwich on Saturday.

And reports are now claiming that Mourinho wants to take over the helm at United to show Chelsea they were wrong to get rid of him.
