Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho claims Chelsea are yet to lose to a side that has outplayed them this term, but instead have only fallen to defeat because of their own lack of killer instinct.

Speaking after the Blues' Capital One Cup defeat to Sunderland, the 50-year-old bemoaned his side's continued inability to be ruthless.

He told Sky Sports 1: "I think they played very well.

"It is the same story of Stoke, of Everton, of every match we lost.

"We never lost a match because the opponent is stronger than us.

"We don't kill the opponent, we give them life. It's always the same."

Mourinho also suggested his current crop were a better footballing side than the one he stewarded during his previous spell at Stamford Bridge, but was at a loss when asked to explain why there is an absence of offensive potency.

"I cannot answer this question," he said.

"I think we are in front in terms of quality of the game.

"It's about results about scoring goals but you see every game we are in trouble."
