Jose Mourinho says Manchester United are "alive for the fight" as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.

A comfortable 3-0 win over Leicester City leaves United on 45 points after 24 games played, two behind fourth-placed Arsenal and four behind third-placed Manchester City.

Mourinho noted United are in an unenviable position, by propping up the chasing pack, before pointing out the extra commitments United have, hinting at Chelsea's lack of European football this term.

"We are there, we are not far," he told BBC Sport. "We are alive for the fight [and] we keep going.

"We know that we are the team in the more difficult position, not just because we have less points but because we have lots of matches to play, lots of competitions to play [in] and matches that will be postponed. It will be really difficult for us.

"It doesn't matter what happens this season as next season we will start from a different point because the way we play football is something we cannot lose."
