Jonas Eidevall urges Arsenal not be defined by consecutive thrashing at the hands of Chelsea and Barcelona

Arsenal Women boss Jonas Eidevall has told his side to not let their recent defeats to Barcelona and Chelsea “define” them.

The Gunners lost the Women’s FA Cup final to Chelsea last Sunday and they followed that up by being beaten by Barca on Thursday.

The Spanish side beat Arsenal 4-0 at Emirates Stadium in the Women’s Champions League, but Eidevall’s side can still qualify for the knockout stages as long as they don’t lose 5-0 in Hoffenheim last week.

Arsenal had been flying until they suffered these two defeats in five days, which came against last year’s Women’s Champions League finalists.

And asked how he lifts morale in the squad after the losses, Eidevall replied: “That’s a good question, because obviously football is also momentum.

“It’s about taking away, from these games here, some of the things we can learn and develop. At the same time then, don’t forget what we have been doing really well so far this season, remind ourselves about that.

“That’s why the days now leading up to the Leicester game, and the game itself, will be extremely important to us to get back on track, to not let this define us but to have the ability to move forward, to understand what we need to focus on.

“But that is up to us to do it. Everybody understands the way that it needs to be done, but then you have to live by it as well.”
