John Terry watch - how did he do against Arsenal?

John Terry helped Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-1 on Saturday on his first appearance since being charged by the Football Association for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.

The former England captain was given a four-match suspension this week, but the ban will not come into effect until after he has decided whether or not to appeal the decision.

Here’s how Terry fared at Emirates Stadium:

1 min - The Chelsea skipper’s first touch is, not all that unsurprisingly, greeted by a chorus of boos but he is not involved in any incidents of note during muted early exchanges.

10 - His first test, of sorts. Gervinho scampers down the right but Terry is perfectly placed to clear the danger. The home fans seem undecided on who to boo loudest - Terry or former Arsenal defender Ashley Cole.

17 - Gervinho goes down on the edge of the area under challenge from a mixture of Terry and Cole, and the home fans want a penalty. Nothing doing from referee Martin Atkinson.

20 - Terry rushes to congratulate Fernando Torres, who puts Chelsea ahead. He enjoyed that.

42 - Terry affords Gervinho too much space inside the area and the winger takes full advantage to draw Arsenal level. The Chelsea captain throws his body in front of the ball but can do nothing as it flies past him and into the roof of the net.

53 - Chelsea deservedly go ahead again, from another set-piece.

62 - Again, Terry is perfectly placed to intercept a through ball from Aaron Ramsey as Arsenal threaten on the break. The jeers have, after an hour, stopped.

72 - Blocks a shot from Theo Walcott with Arsenal pressing from an equaliser. With Chelsea under a lot of pressure, Terry barks out instructions to the rest of his defenders.

78 - Heads away at the front post with substitute Oliver Giroud lurking to put Arsenal level. Chelsea’s defence, marshaled by Terry, are forced to defend very deep.

86 - He high fives Cole as another Arsenal attack peters out.

90 - On the final whistle, Terry goes over to the pocket of travelling Chelsea fans and gives his boots to two young supporters. “One England captain” rings around an emptying Emirates. A job well done for Terry and Chelsea after a difficult week.
