John Terry will miss Chelsea's post-season tour to the United States with an ankle injury, the Europa League winners have confirmed.

Captain Terry and Ryan Bertrand (knee) did not join the 23-man group which left for the USA today for two friendlies with Manchester City - in St Louis on Thursday and New York on Saturday - which will mark the end of Rafael Benitez's spell as interim manager.

Frank Lampard, who last week signed a one-year contract extension, will captain the squad in Terry's absence, and Eden Hazard travelled despite a hamstring injury ruling him out of the Europa League final win over Benfica and yesterday's defeat of Everton.

Academy youngsters Andreas Christensen, a defender, and Ruben Lotus-Cheek, a midfielder, joined the travelling party which did include Paulo Ferreira, who bade farewell to Stamford Bridge following the defeat of the Toffees.
