John Terry is confident Chelsea can still challenge for a top-four Premier League finish after the champions' "bizarre" unbeaten run under Guus Hiddink.

The title holders made a disastrous start to the 2015-16 season, with nine defeats from their opening 16 league games eventually costing Jose Mourinho his job in December.

Guus Hiddink was brought in for his second spell as Chelsea's interim manager, and the Blues have gone 13 games unbeaten in the top flight under the Dutch coach this term.

Speaking about the club's current run and a potential push for the top four, Terry is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "It’s bizarre. It’s something as a group we’ve not even thought about at the moment. We’re just on a good run at the minute.

"If we keep winning and other teams keep dropping points then of course we have a great chance.

"It’s great we’ve been able to turn things around. It was always going to happen.

"We would have liked it to come earlier in the season but we knew we had the quality in the dressing room.

"I knew we’d be okay in the long run."

Chelsea vs Stoke ratings

Chelsea currently sit 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City having played a game more than Manuel Pellegrini's side, though the Blues could also qualify for the Champions League next season if they win the competition this year.

The Blues will have to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in order to progress, but Terry - who is doubtful for the game after missing Saturday's 1-1 draw against Stoke - is confident the crowd can give his side a boost.

"We’ve come back from worse results in the past," he added. "It’s 2-1. We still have a great chance at home. Those nights at the Bridge are unbelievable.

"They are big occasions. We have players who are hungry and have had a lot of disappointments in the competition that want to go on further, so it’s going to be a good game."
