Joe Gomez has backed Alisson Becker to continue taking risks with the ball at his feet despite the Liverpool goalkeeper costing his side a goal in their 2-1 win at Leicester City on Saturday.

The Reds saw their lead halved in the 67th minute as Kelechi Iheanacho capitalised on Alisson’s reckless attempt to execute a Cruyff turn in his own box, stealing the ball before setting up Rachid Ghezzal to score.

Leicester’s goal represented the first time Liverpool had conceded in the Premier League this season, and left the visitors hanging on for the remainder of the game.

But Gomez is keen for his team-mate to remain true to his proactive style of play going forward, and believes Liverpool can be proud of their response to his mistake.

"That is his style of play and I think everyone wants him to continue doing that," he said. "All the time he gives us that confidence that we can play and it relieves a lot of pressure for us.

"Everyone has their style of play and we don't want him to change. I think he's confident and will continue to [be] so.

"As a team, we play for clean sheets - that is important and it's the foundation for you because if they don't score you can't lose.

“It's going to happen, though, we're bound to concede goals but the main thing is the reaction.

"We didn't drop our heads and we knew we could withstand the pressure and that is the main thing. We'll take the three points over the clean sheet."
