Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is delighted to have become QPR's 'chosen one' but warned that there is work to be done at Loftus Road if the club is to have a successful season.

The 43-year-old guided Burton Albion to the League Two title last season but has left the Brewers to become the Rangers' fourth manager in five years.

The R's are currently 12th in the Championship table and are one of several sides who are within three points of the play-off places but Hasselbaink is relishing the challenge ahead of him.

"I'm very excited and very privileged to be given this opportunity," said the former striker.

"Why QPR? It gives me a good feeling and the ideas that the club has suits me - I think that it's a good fit.

"I'm very happy to be the chosen one and to be the head of the QPR family and take them forward."

When asked whether Rangers would be able to reclaim their Premier League status this season, Hasselbaink suggested that success represented "challenging and getting as high up as possible."

The R's have won just two of their last six games but have enjoyed a solid record in front of their own fans this season and have only lost once at Loftus Road.

Hasselbaink admitted that he will be expected to install an exciting brand of football in west London but warned that there is plenty of work ahead of him and his new set of players.

"We know how the fans are. They want to see their teams do whatever they need to do to try and win the game and play an exciting type of football.

"What I'm going to bring is honesty, stability and hopefully some excitement.

"There's work to be done - feet on the ground.

"It's a squad that does excite me - with a lot of good players.

"We need to have a strategy - together. We need to be a force - together.

"We need to trust each other and work, work, work."

Hasselbaink's first two games in charge are against formidable opposition in the form of fellow promotion hopefuls Burnley and unbeaten league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.
